CREATIVE FUTURES 2025

For 2025, the Watersprite Creative Futures Programme is back and better than ever!

If you’re aged 16-18 and living in the Cambridgeshire area, get involved in our free filmmaking workshops taking place throughout the year and come along to our screenings.

You’ll boost your knowledge about the film industry and where to get started alongside meeting like-minded young creatives in the local area. Have a look through our upcoming opportunities below and get invovled!


Intro to film Workshops

This year, we are running a series of workshops throughout the year for

16-18 year olds to get involved in filmmaking in Cambridge and meet like-minded creatives from the local area.

All these workshops are completely free to attend and open to all, no matter your experience.

Come along and find out something new about the wonderful world of filmmaking!

Workshop Details

  • Phone Filmmaking Workshop
    Date: 22nd November 2024
    Time: 5:30-7:30pm
    Location: Anglia Ruskin University, East Rd, Cambridge CB1 1PT

    What to Expect:
    In this workshop, participants will learn essential filmmaking techniques specifically tailored for iPhone filming. Our Creative Futures team, dedicated to inspiring the next generation of filmmakers, will guide students through practical skills in shooting, editing, and storytelling. Students will leave with the tools and confidence to start creating their own films using devices they already have!

    Suitable for anyone curious about filmmaking, no experience necessary. 

  • Exploring the Nitty Gritty of Film

    Date: 28th January 2025
    Time: 5:30-7:30pm
    Location: Anglia Ruskin University, East Rd, Cambridge CB1 1PT

    In this workshop, participants will dive deep into the art of film analysis, exploring the techniques and storytelling methods that make films impactful. Our Creative Futures team will guide students through the intricacies of visual style, narrative structure, and thematic depth. By the end, students will leave with sharper analytical skills and a new perspective on the films they watch, ready to uncover the layers of meaning behind every frame and scene.

  • Watersprite Creative Late: Celebration Evening

    Date: 19th February 2025
    Time: 5:30-7:30pm
    Location: Anglia Ruskin University, East Rd, Cambridge CB1 1PT

    Join us at Creative Late, a dynamic social event designed for young creatives to connect, spark ideas, and celebrate creativity! Mingle with fellow artists, enjoy screenings of award winning short films, and get a professional headshot—all in a lively atmosphere that encourages fresh connections and ideas. It’s the perfect chance to meet others who share your passion, exchange inspiration, and dive into a community of future creatives.

    Suitable for anyone curious about filmmaking, no experience necessary.


Monthly screenings at the arts picturehouse.

Each month we will be screening feature length films from across all genres at the Arts Picturehouse, Cambridge.

Come down to see old favourites and maybe even make some new favourites along the way!

Each screening will be introduced by the Watersprite Team and you’ll have the opportunity to meet others interested in film in our post-screening discussions in the Picturehouse Cafe.

CREATIVE FUTURES DAY 2025

Creative Futures Day will be taking place on Friday 7th March 2025. This an opportunity for students between the ages of 16-18 to learn directly from incredible practitioners from across the film industry.

Our workshops will be packed with hands-on sessions led by industry professionals all designed to demystify various aspects of film production. From storyboarding and directing to technical roles such as editing, we’ll be sharing insider tips on how to start your own projects, no matter their background, budget or experience level.

There will also be opportunities to ask questions and network with peers and professionals.

  • Workshops across the day will include practical skills such as storyboarding Workshop, Acting and Directing for Screen Workshop, Editing Workshop, as well as an Industry Panel on First Steps into the Industry. All Workshops and panels will be lead by industry professionals

    Creative Futures Day will take place at the Old Divinity School, St John’s College, Cambridge, CB2 1TP.

  • As a part of the Creative Futures Day you will receive exclusive guest-list invites to the Royal Television Society East’s Student Awards which will take place on the evening of the 7th March at the Old Divinity School, St John’s College.

    This will be an exciting event celebrating some of the best in local student filmmaking!
